Love gardening, but hate the aches and pains you suffer after working in the garden?
Back breaking exercise…that’s how many types of gardening are often thought of.
Weeding, digging, shovelling, raking, planting….
You can learn to move better so that gardening becomes a strength-building workout as opposed to a back breaking, aches and pains workout.
You will learn how to move your body better as you do common gardening tasks. We will then work through a sequence to activate the muscles that will help your body feel better. Many of the moves in this sequence can be done as you garden.
We’ll then take a short break to have a drink and a piece of cake. Finally, we’ll spend some time moving through a second sequence designed to release overworked muscles after gardening.
You’ll receive videos of both sequences, so that you can do them again at home.
Sound good?
Date: Tuesday 6 July
Time: 10am until 12 noon
Venue: Green Tye, SG10 6 (full address is provided on booking).
Investment: £30 including two videos of movement sequences for you to keep (one to activate your muscles and one to release muscles), a pdf of the moves with an explanation of how to do them, tea, coffee, cold drinks and cake
NB. My garden is not a show garden. I’m primarily a movement coach and mother. I enjoy gardening when it suits me, but do not prioritise a “perfect” garden!
Frequently Asked Questions
What should I wear?
Top priority is something you are comfortable in and that you can move in. We will be outside whatever the weather, so please dress appropriately whether the sun is shining or it’s raining! Form fitting clothes always make it easier for me to see how you’re moving.
Do I need to bring anything?
We will be doing some movements kneeling and on all fours, so if you usually use a kneeling pad or something else under your knees, please bring that. You might also like to bring a gardening fork. Don’t worry, I’m not going to get you to dig my garden. We will be testing how different moves and positions when we use tools can feel differently in the body!
Is this for men and women?
My classes, workshops and 1-2-1s are focused on women at the moment. If you are a man and interested in this workshop, please let me know and I’ll consider putting on a mixed one in the future.
I belong to a horticultural group/volunteer gardeners group/WI group/other group/organisation of gardeners, will you do a workshop just for us?
Yes, please email me [email protected] and we can discuss options. I can also do this workshop online via Zoom.
I struggle to get up and down from the floor. Is this for me?
We will be moving up and down. I can always give modifications and do so in all of my classes and 1-2-1s. You may find a 1-2-1 more helpful as I can personalise everything for you. You can find out more about 1-2-1s here.
